Delivering Integrated Transport – 10 July 2008
Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London
The Department for Transport recently announced a £4bn funding package to improve local transport outside London, with £1.77bn set-aside specifically for integrated transport improvements. The government is also in the final stages of ratifying the Local Transport Bill, which if implemented would devolve more powers to local authorities in order to create integrated transport networks.
Despite financial backing and goodwill the real challenge is to change modern society’s reliance on cars. This can only be achieved through careful land use planning combined with a better understanding of community behaviour. The industry needs to work closely with local authorities and ultimately developing integrated transport plans that are deliverable.
Developing Integrated Transport Solutions brings together key players in the public and the private sectors to determine how to deliver integrated transport.
