The IHT 100 is a panel of 100 leading members and fellows of the Institution. Every month they respond by e-mail to a topical transport policy question posed by the Institution’s staff – the questions are developed in association with the IHT Transport Policy Board. The question is set in a way that requires only a yes/no answer, resulting in an instant “vote” from the profession on the topic in question.
The results are presented in Transportation Professional giving the journal readership a guide to the balance of member’s opinions on the issues of the day. The results are also published on the IHT website www.iht.org. The voting helps the Institution to gauge professional opinion when responding to consultation documents issued by Government and other agencies, as well as for press releases and other publicity matters.
Although the questions require only a simple yes/no response, many panel members also give a short explanation or justification for their voting decisions. These comments can help to understand the reasoning behind their judgement and often add value and colour to the result of the vote. For the last couple of months Steve Atkins, a member of the Transport Policy Board, has compiled a short commentary from these additional comments and these have been put on the website. |
